INTRODUCTION
This IOM is also subject of a safety manual document to provide necessary
information to design, install, verify and maintain a Safety Instrumented
Function (SIF) utilizing a solenoid valve. It provides necessary requirements
for meeting the IEC 61508 or IEC 61511 functional safety standards.
Installation/Performance Information
All elements of the appropriate Parker Fluid Control Division (FCD)
Installation, Operating & Maintenance sheets (IOM's) must be followed before
installing, operating and servicing the valve.
The valve must be operated and installed in accordance with the operating
parameters specified in the IOM, catalog and/or markings on the nameplate.
This includes the electrical and pressure ratings, temperature limits and
environmental conditions.
User must confirm that the valve meets specific performance criteria required
for Safety Instrumented Functions.
Installations that comply with Functional Safety per IEC 61508 should consult
the FMEDA Report for data to establish specific Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).
The valve has met Parker design process requirements of Safety Integrity
Level (SIL) 3. These are intended to achieve sufficient integrity against
systematic errors of design by Parker. A Safety Instrumented Function (SIF)
designed with this valve must not be used at SIL level higher than the
statement without "prior use" justification by end user or diverse technology
redundancy in the design
When the final element assembly consists of many components (solenoid
valve, quick exhaust valve, actuator, isolation valve, etc.) the SIL must be
verified for the entire assembly using failure rates from all components. This
analysis must account for any hardware fault tolerance and architecture
constraints.
The valve should be operated using clean, dry air; recommended air quality
per ISA-SP7.3S.
Service Information
The valve should be observed for performance during proof and diagnostic
testing. Any indication of reduced performance, such as an increase in
leakage rate, response time, or required shifting pressure, will require
maintenance of the valve. Normal recommended maintenance and service
interval is one year or 100,000 cycles; or after a prolonged period
(approximately six months) of not cycling. Service conditions may require
more frequent servicing.
The recommended minimum operating interval is one month.
Proof testing and diagnostic testing should be performed on intervals
indicated in the FMEDA report to maintain the specified SIL capability. The
partial Valve Stroke testing of the safety Instrumented Function provides a full
cycle test of the solenoid valve. The test itself must be SIL-2 compliant and
performed at a rate at least ten times faster than expected demand rate.
The time to detect a dangerous failure by partial valve stroke testing is 730
hours
Any failures affecting functional safety should be reported to the factory.
When servicing this valve, the user must refer to the Parker FCD IOM for
instructions; original spare parts must be used when replacing components.
When a valve has been serviced, repaired or if any maintenance is
performed, the valve must be evaluated for proper function (proof testing).
The mean time to restoration (MTTR) after a safe failure is 8 hours.

aluminium or stainless steel body and threaded 1/8" or 1/4" BSP or NPT ports
or NAMUR subbase mounting.
Pilot operated with miniature coil with integrated exhaust or standard coil with
various protection mode compliant with ATEX or pneumatic operated.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE
To ensure the proper function of the device and promote long
service lift, you must comply with the information in these
Operating Instructions and the application conditions and
specification provided in the Data Sheet. Usage of the device in a
manner that is contrary to these Operating Instructions or the
application conditions and specification provided in the Data
Sheet is improper and will void your warranty. This device serves
exclusively as a 3/2 or 5/2 solenoid valve for the media stated to be
permissible on the Data Sheet. Any other use is considered
improper use. The manufacturer will not be responsible for any
improper use of the device
Changes to the product may only be made after consulting the manufacturer
or his representative. Installation and maintenance of the valve must be
carried out by qualified personnel only.
Those solenoid spool valves are designed to operate with filtered, dry or
lubricated air or neutral gas and within the technical characteristics specified
on the nameplate and in the Data Sheet.
MOUNTING
Prior installing the solenoid valve, depressurize the pipes and clean
!
them internally to avoid particles entering the system.(tape sealant,
thread compound). The valves may be mounted in any position.

Installation, Operating & Maintenance
Spool valves series
341-342-345-347-441-541-547 N/P
Fixing is made with 2 screw M5 (Torque 4 to 5 Nm) provided for model with
NAMUR subbase mounting and with 2 screws M4 or M5 according the fixing
direction for threaded models.
General recommendations for pneumatic connection
Connect pipes for the required functions in accordance with this
documentation and the ports markings on the product.
Make sure that no foreign matter enters the system.
Correctly support and align pipes to prevent mechanical strain on the valve.
When tightening, do not use the valve as a lever. Locate wrenches as close
as possible to connection point. To avoid damage to the equipment, DO
NOT OVERTIGHTEN pipe connections.
Connection of the spool valve

General recommendation
- Electrical connection must be made by qualified personnel and according
to applicable local standards and regulations.
- Before any intervention, turn off the electrical current to power off the
components.
- Depending on the voltage, electrical components must be grounded
according to local standards and regulations
- Most valves are designed for continuous duty. To prevent the risk of
personal injury, do not touch the solenoid operator which can become hot
under normal operating conditions.
Miniature and standard coils
Electrical connection is made with detachable spade plug connector for
cable dia. 6-8mm (Pg9), rotatable by 180° increments (3 pins: 2 + earth)
Explosion proof coils (ATEX)
See particular instructions sheet delivered with those coils.
Spool valves with NAMUR subbase mounting are delivered with a patented
sealing plate providing on-site conversion of the valve from 3/2 to the 5/2
function by simply rotating the plate through 180°. A coding screw can be
used to ensure the function choosen when the valve is disassembled and
reassembled on the subbase. (See Fig.3)
The spool valves can comprise a manual override providing operation without
electrical supply.
Spool valves offer the following standard options:
- In line or perpendicular pilot
- 22mm miniature pilot or standard pilot (32mm or 40mm for explosion proof)
- Nominal flow 600 Nl/mn (4mm) or 1400Nl/mn (8mm)
- Standard Fluide temperature (-25°c to 80°C) or extreme (-40°C to 80°C)
- Monostable electrically operated, spring return (341 series)
- Bistable electrically operated, with neutral position return (342 series)
- Monostable impulse electrically operated, spring return (345 series)
- Bistable electrically operated, air-solenoid return (347 series)
- Monostable electrically operated and external pilot air, spring return (441
series)
- Monostable pneumatic operated, sping return (541 series)
- Bistable pneumatic operation and return (547 series)
Prior any maintenance work, switch off power supply, depressurise and
!
vent the valve to prevent the risk of personal injury or damage
equipment.
Preventive maintenance
Operate the valve at least once a month to check its function.
Avoid obstruction of exhaust port when it is not connected or protect it with
a cap.
Cleaning
Maintenance of the valve depends on the operating conditions. They must
be cleaned at regular intervals. Cleaning must be done when a slowing
down of the cycle, a leakage or an abnormal noise is noticed. The
components must be checked for excessive wear. Cleaning must not be
made with solvent.
